Confidence is one of the most attractive qualities a person can possess. It exudes a sense of self-assurance and self-belief that is attractive and empowering. But what is confidence, and how can we develop it?
Confidence is a state of mind that is cultivated over time. It is not something you are born with, but rather a skill that you can learn, develop, nurture and grow over time. In this blog post, we will explore some tips and methods to build it for yourself.
Backstory
In the past I used to struggle with it a lot. One day I’d be happy with myself and the next day I’d doubt it all. I kept wondering how people could always have confidence. How I could feel comfortable in myself in all that I do. I realized that it wasn’t something that would come on its own. I had to be intentional about it.
Confidence is mostly mindset, so that’s exactly where I started. I had to analyse the way I thought of myself and actively tell myself that I am confident regardless of how I was feeling at that moment, bit by bit it was changing the way I thought of myself.
I had to learn to be so focused on my path that I would be unable to waste time comparing myself, because as you may know Comparisson kills all joy! Your journey is never going to look like the one next to you, so it’s important that you spend time investing into your own life instead of turning your head to what others are up to!
To get to where I am today I actively practice the 7 ways to boost confidence.
7 ways to boost your confidence
1. Know yourself
The first step in building confidence is to know yourself. This means understanding your strengths and weaknesses, your values, your passions and your fears. When you have a clear understanding of who you are and what you stand for, you will be better equipped to make decisions and take actions that align with your values.
One of the things that can help you get a quick and clear understanding of yourself is by doing a SWOT-analysis on yourself. By using this SWOT-analysis, you’ll have a very good basis on who you are. If you want to go deeper on that, definitely check out the Self discovery journal prompts, those ones go into more detail and you’ll find out way more about who you are.
2. Set achievable goals
Another important step in building confidence is setting achievable goals. When you set goals that are realistic and achievable, you build momentum and confidence in your ability to accomplish what you set out to do. Start with small goals, and gradually work your way up to more challenging ones.
In this it’s also very important to learn to believe in yourself. A lot of people often set goals that seem achievable in their mind, but don’t believe it in their hearts or the other way around, they believe it in their hearts and because of that don’t even start doing it, due to overconfidence in that one goal. Sadly, both of these scenarios result in low true confidence over time. What I mean with that is that you’ll have the quick boost, but that feeling will wear off just as quickly as it came.
3. Visualize success
Visualization is a powerful tool for building confidence. When you visualize yourself succeeding, you build a mental image of what success looks like, and you are more likely to achieve it. Take some time to imagine yourself succeeding in the areas where you want to build confidence, and focus on the feelings of accomplishment and satisfaction that come with success.
What if I can’t visualize it? I’ve heard many people ask me this and what I’ve noticed that can help when you struggle visualizing it, is taking the steps anyway. Focus on your next step only and the things that you do well right now.
4. Embrace failure
One of the biggest obstacles to building confidence is the fear of failure. Many people are afraid to take risks or try new things because they are afraid of failing. However, failure is an inevitable part of the learning process. When you embrace failure as an opportunity to learn and grow, you will be better equipped to take risks and try new things.
Your next win is always behind that risk your afraid to take. There is nothing in life that is without risks, but as long as you are breathing, you can always try again. Even though everything falls to chambles, you will be able to start from zero again. It might seem like a pain at first, but knowing you can always start building again, can help you face your fear of failure. Embrace failure as part of the process.
5. Practice self-care
Self-care is essential for building confidence. When you take care of yourself physically, emotionally, and mentally, you feel better about yourself and your abilities. Make sure to get enough sleep, eat a healthy diet, and exercise regularly. Take time for activities that bring you joy, such as hobbies or spending time with loved ones.

6. Surround yourself with positivity
The people you surround yourself with can have a big impact on your confidence. Surround yourself with people who are positive and supportive, and who encourage you to pursue your goals and dreams. Avoid people who are negative or critical, as they can undermine your confidence and self-belief.
Find people who are headed towards similar paths as you, they will often understand your struggles a bit better and you’ll find comfort in the fact that you are NOT alone in the things that you need to do. People who are also mainly focused on their path as well and that are not afraid to tell you.
7. Take action
Finally, the most important step in building confidence is taking action. Confidence is built through action, not just through thinking or planning. When you take action towards your goals, you build momentum and confidence in your ability to succeed.
Just do it! The thing that you’ve been afraid of doing, just take the step in faith that it’ll all work itself out.
In conclusion, confidence is a skill that can be learned and developed over time. By following these tips and techniques, you can build your confidence and achieve your goals. Remember to know yourself, set achievable goals, visualize success, embrace failure, practice self-care, surround yourself with positivity, and take action. This way is something that you will see the results of over a long period of time. This is not a quick fix for any issues. It’s important to focus on the sustainability of your growth. With practice and persistence, you can become a confident, self-assured person who is capable of achieving anything you set your mind to.
