Furnishing and decorating my room was quite a task and I wanted to do it as budget friendly as I possibly could, but also make sure its functional and easy to maintain. Trying to create a functional and good-looking room is never easy and you’ve probably read a lot of articles of seen a lot of videos of people promoting “must-haves”. After a while it starts to get very overwhelming to know what you actually need and what things you don’t. This article is different from others, because trust me, these 5 must-haves lead to an organized room.
The reason why these 5 must-haves work and most of the other ones you see online don’t, is because these ones are focused on creating space for the things that you need by creating a space for all your stuff, that way you can put things in the right place.
Must-have #1: Jewellery stand
One of the best purchases I made was my jewellery stand. It was such a compact and beautiful way to display all of my jewellery.
I used to lose some of my jewellery, because I didn’t have one place to keep it all safe. Some times I’d lose one earring of a pair or a pair would vanish as a whole and I wouldn’t be able to find it again. Sometimes I’d find my earrings in the most random places after months of looking for it. So at one point I got tired of it and started looking for a budget friendly solution to keep all my jewellery safe, compact and in one place. Then I decided to add jewellery stands to my shop. You’ll find them here.
Must-have #2: Shoe rack
Organizing shoes is such an easy way to keep your space clean and free and the shoes I wear most are downstairs by the door, but I had to find a way to store the shoes for special occasions compactly.
Due to the limited space in my room I had to find something small enough that I could put onto my drawers in the corner, so that they would also be easily accessible.
This shoe rack from IKEA was the perfect size to fit on top of my drawers and it looks super cute. The color matches the Jewellery stand and thanks to the color and style, it makes the room look very modern and elegant.
This shoe rack also limites me from buying shoes I don’t need. I can only have shoes that can fit on the shoe rack, if I want a new pair, I need to get rid of an old pair.

Must-have #3: Wall shelf
I have quite a lot of books; novels, informative books, journals that I wanted to keep at an accessible distance. The simplest way to organize a whole lot of books was by putting a shelf in my room. Which brings us to the third must-have: a bookshelf. Not any shelf, but this specific one can carry up to 30 books (which I have tried so far), a plant and some candles. It is also a nice way to put your favorite books on display.
I also covered all of my books so that the colours would match the rest of the room.
This shelf is available in various sizes, but I got the one of 1,2m length.
The shelf costed €9.99, and it’s quite strong, it’s also lasted me 3 years so far and we use this same shelf in our living room downstairs for decoration.
To save some money and the planet, you can check out Facebook market, www.2dehands.be or any other local second hand website. There are many people who have these in a good condition that you can buy it from, but if you can’t find it there, you will find the link here.
Must-have #4: Plastic boxes
Storing away the things I didn’t need at the moment, but didn’t want to throw away, these IKEA boxes were the perfect size and I can fit 3 of them under my bed. I use mine for the clothes that are not for this season, bed sheets or books and files that I want to store away, but don’t need weekly.
I also use it to put the things that I don’t have space for at the moment.

Must-have #5: drawer organizers
These aren’t the exact ones, but they’re similar to the ones I have. These organizers have saved my life! It makes it so easy to sort things out in my drawers. From electronics to pens, passports, Instax camera’s and all the stuff that has no place of its own, there should be an organizer for everything. For the different items I use different sizes. Most of them are the same size besides the one for my bras. That one is a bigger one.
It’s such a neat way of organizing all the small things that I have in my drawers and it is satisfying to look at when I open my drawers. It adds to my daily dose of joy! 😉

Must-have #6: Bedside table
You have no idea how essential a bedside table is. I keep my lamp on there, the book I’m reading at that moment, my Bible, my phone, my medication and of course my water bottle. A bedside table is really handy to keep stuff that you need for your morning or evening routine. It makes your routine go smoother. It makes everything I need close by easy accessible.
Must-have #7: Power strip
There are only a few sockets in your room and the placements of sockets might not be where you need it most, so to bring them closer to where you need them power strips can help. To keep them from looking messy in your room, its best to tape them with duck tape. Due to my wall being white, I taped them with white duck tape, but you can also use white tape to make it look even more invisible.
Must-have #8: Hanger for the door
Another product that I can’t live without is my hanger for the door. On that hanger I can usually keep the coats that I don’t use that often and my robes. It keeps them out of the way when I don’t need them.

Must-have #9: Waste bin
Another way to keep my room tidy is by having a bin in my room. This is a necessity in every room. So that there is no waste laying around waiting to be picked up “one day”. It is a small thing, but a real life saver.
Must-have #10: Laundry basket
The last must-have for an organized room is a laundry basket. If your bedroom is not on the same floor as your laundry room, it’s best to keep a small laundry basket in your room for those moments you don’t feel like going all the way to the laundry room, you can keep your dirty clothes somewhere without it looking messy.
Must-have #11: Bonus must-have
Another thing that helps me a lot is a small foldable desk for my bed. If I want to work by myself on my bed I usually use that one when I need to get some stuff done late at night or first thing in the morning.
These are the things in my room that help me keep it effortlessly clean and organized. I hope this post helped you guys out! If you have a question, don’t hesitate to leave a comment or send a message!
