Hey there,
I hope you’ve been well? In this post you will learn how to clean stainless steel jewellery in 15 minutes.
Stainless steel jewellery doesn’t tarnish, but it can get dirty. So to keep it clean and shiny you’ll have to clean it every now and then.
How often should you clean stainless steel jewellery
It all depends on how often you wear it, but if you’re like me and wear your jewellery daily, you’ll probably have to clean it once every 2-3 months.
If you wear the same jewellery once in a while, it could be once every 6 months to a year before you’ll have to clean it.
What you’ll need
- 1 tbsp Baking soda
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 cup of warm water
- Soft-bristled toothbrush
- bowl
- microfiber cloth
How to make the mixure
Warm the cup of water for about 2 minutes. Whilst the water is warming up, mix the baking soda and the salt together.
Then mix the water with the salt and baking soda well.
How to clean stainless steel jewellery
Add the jewellery in the bowl and leave it there for 10-15 minutes. Be aware, if your stainless steel jewellery has a gold plating over it, only keep it in the mix for maximum 12 minutes.
After 10-15 minutes remove the jewellery and wipe it down with a microfaber cloth.
If you still find dirt on it after wiping it down, then you can use a soft toothbrush to scrub off the dirty parts.
How do you make stainless steel sparkle again? After cleaning the jewellery, you will use a clean microfiber cloth to polish it down.
Method #2
Another way to clean jewellery is by soaking it in cleaning alcohol as well. You don’t have to rinse it with water, but I would wipe it with a microfiber cloth.
Tips to keep the jewellery clean
- Avoid chemical fluids such as perfumes, alcohol, nailpolishremover and cremes on your jewellery
- Limit the exposure to chlorine and water on the jewellery
- Keep your jewellery in a dry and (optionally) dark place
- Jewelry with natural stone/beads/freshwater pearls do not like water. The best way to clean them is with a damp cloth and make sure you let them dry completely.
