A couple of days ago I was asked whydefining purpose was important. As a person who loves pursuing purpose the question actually surprised me a little. As I was thinking of how to answer it in a general way instead of explaining my own purpose I started to realize that there must be a lot of people wondering whether a purpose in life even exists?
According to google the definition of purpose is:
The reason for which something is done or created or for which somethinig exists.
Now I used to think, just like most of you, that purpose was something that is stagnant. Purpose is not the same as a goal though. A goal is something you aim for and once you hit the mark, you set a next goal, but another way to define purpose is by knowing that it’s a journey. A journey through which you do the things that you believe you were created to do.
Another way of defining purpose
At this point you must be wondering what if I don’t know/ believe that I was created to do something? That’s okay. Defining purpose in your life is the journey of finding the things that you’re good at and how you would love to live your life. Defining purpose is also finding your true self is the essence of purpose. Finding the things that bring you peace on the inside even when everything on the outside is making a lot of noise.
It’s finding the things you love and the things you dislike. It’s finding the things you’re good at and the things you don’t do so well and whether you want to improve those or not.
Purpose is making a choice to focus on certain areas in your life that can bring you joy and peace at the end of the day.
When you’re in your purpose it doesn’t mean that all days are going to be great, but it does mean that all of your days are going to bring you peace that surpasses your understanding.
True peace isn’t dependent on your circumstances though. True joy also isn’t dependent on your circumstances, but on your focus.
