How to stop worrying. People worry as a part of their daily life, but how can we live a life without worrying too much?
Be a warrior not a worrier, one of the motto’s I myself try to live by daily. Well, not just try, but I actually work on living that way. Honestly, worrying doesn’t help you get ahead in life. It doesn’t help you live a better or more fulfilled life. In this post you’ll learn about the following things:
- Why we worry?
- Bible verses for worry and stress
- How to stop worrying?
- What does it mean to be a warrior and not a worrier?
- How to become a warrior?
Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?
luke 12:25
Why do we worry?
Imagine this, you’re organising a birthday party. In the organisation process you can choose the balloons, the cake, the decorations, the activities, who to invite, how many people to invite and how to invite them. Some things you can’t choose though: other people’s agenda’s.
No matter how well you organize the party and how well you inform people beforehand, it will never be a guarantee that everyone will come. If they all do, there is also no guarantee that it all goes exactly how you want it to.
When you start to focus all your energy on the things that you are not certain of, that’s where worry begins. It starts when you feel the need to know something for certain that you can never know for certain.
Because of a lack
As you might have noticed the root of worry is the lack of faith and trust. When you’re afraid that things won’t go well and focus all your energy and thoughts on the things that won’t go well. When you put all your energy into trying to avoid pain and dissapointment. When you’re trying to eliminate all the risks.
Sadly, life doesn’t work that way. There will always be a risk, that is why you need faith. Faith that things will work out for the better.
When you’re trying to control every aspect of your life, you miss out on the things you really need to do. You lose the energy for the things that are in your control. The more you try to control in your life, the more you will tend to worry.
Worry comes from a place of lack. It comes from a place in which you believe that you don’t have enough, while in all the things that you do, you will always have enough if you believe you have enough. It’s important to believe with all your heart and mind that in every situation you have exactly what you need.
Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich! You have begun to reign—and that without us! How I wish that you really had begun to reign so that we also might reign with you!
1 Corinthians 4:8 (NIV)
Another way we often think we are lacking is in character. We often think that we’re not competent enough to accomplish the things that God has told us to accomplish. To answer your question: we’re often not competent enough to accomplish it by ourselves. We need help.
Such confidence we have through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
2 Corinthians 3:4-6
Doubt
Doubt can sometimes pop up in your mind, but be careful not to become double-minded because of doubt.
A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
James 1:8 (KJV)
In this life where the options are limitless, you’ll often have various paths that you can choose or even alternate between. You’ll often want to have a backup plan, because you wan’t to limi the risks. It’s good to have a backup plan, but if you spend your whole life focusing on creating backup plans after backup plans, you won’t get anywhere. This is where I want to remind you that you can’t fully eliminate risks.
Often times it’s better to focus your energy on plan A rather than plan A and plan B.
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other, or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Matthew 6:24
As you can see in this verse, focusing on two paths at the same time will make you hate one and love the ther and that conflict causes unnessecary stress and doubt.
How to stop worrying
At this point, you must be wondering how to stop worrying and if that’s even possible. Yes, not worrying is something you can train yourself to do. It won’t be something you’ll never do again, but these are things that will help you deal with worrying so that eventually worry has no longer power over your life.
Prayer and worship
Honestly, this is one of the first things you should do. Take time to pray and worship. Remind yourself of who is in control. Dance around in your room. Let it all out.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Phillipians 4:6-7 (ESV)
Focus on giving
Rather than focusing on the outcome focus on the input. Focus on giving it your all. If you give your all and believe that you will be rewarded, maybe not here or now,
What does it mean to be a warrior and not a worrier?
Being a warrior means being mentally strong. It means knowing what to focus your attention on. It’s focusing on the plan while being flexible enough and knowing how to react to unexpected things.
Before we do that, it’s important to wear the right armor.
How to be a warrior and not a worrier
Here are a couple of things you can do, to be more of a warrior than a worrier:
- Remember your training; before you go to war, there’s always a season of training. For that, you need the right gear (Ephesians 6:10-18). Being a warrior is never an easy job. And amid the war you’ll need your training to do the things that you need to do
- You are in control of your thoughts; many thoughts will come to mind and it’s important to always know that you can control the thoughts in your mind. You have the power to shift your thoughts towards hope and positivity. You can choose to let go of the things that you have no control over.
- You’re not alone in the battle; often when you’re fighting it’ll feel like you’re fighting alone, but you’re not. There are many others fighting the same fight and even more have overcome it, which means that you can too! You just have to believe you can!
- Keep your eyes on the prize; remember the vision. Remember that this is not your destination, but the journey towards it. When you take this season as a part of the journey, rather than the destination, you can have hope that it’ll get better
- Pick your battles wisely; As a warrior not every battle needs to be fought by you. Not every issue that comes up is for you to solve.
If you need a reminder of this post, then you’ll love the following small reminders that I have available in the shop: Ari, the symbol of strength and honor, Deborah: in all things that you do, use the wisdom that you have! Jael, which stands for the power of grace! Naomi, a reminder that you’re not alone in this battle and that you can seek help when you need it
