7 tips on how to organize your life as a procrastinator
- Your space
- Routine?
- How does sleep influence your life
- Thought life
- What to do with distractions
- Kindness
- endurance
1. Organize your space
It’s important to start with the basics and one of the first things that you can do to help you improve in your life is to organize your space. Clear out the clutter that you haven’t used in the past 3 months and redesign your space and make it into something that you will enjoy spending time in.
Even though it seems like a nuisance to do, having a clear space has been proven to reduce stress and improve your mood. If it feels like a hassle to do and you’re tempted to procrastinate doing it: just play your favorite playlist and go and clean it right now; I promise you, you will feel like that person 😉 you know who I mean; the person who you’ve always wanted to be, but were too lazy to become.
2. Create your dream routine
The second necessity to organize your life as a procrastinator is to have a routine that works for you. Write down the things you’d love to do in a day. Starting from your everyday tasks: time you wake up, the activities you want to do, the activities you’re already doing, journalling, etc.
It’s important to note that after you write them down, following the routine won’t happen overnight. It’s best to build it up task by task. When you first write down your routine choose one thing that you’re going to definitely do for the coming 7 days. I started with waking up early and the things that I do immediately after I wake up. That process took me about 3 months to get the hang of it, so be nice to yourself while making these life changes.
3. Have a sleeping schedule
The third tip on how to organize your life is one that a lot of people struggle with and are probably wondering how a sleeping schedule is going to help you get your life together. There are many studies that show how essential not only the amount of sleep, but also a regular sleeping schedule is. You can find a good schedule of how much sleep you need on the Sleep Foundation. On this same page you will also find the 4 stages of sleep.
Lack of sleep disturbs your higher levels of reasoning, problem-solving, attention to detail, energy levels and your mood. This is why a good sleeping schedule is a great start when you’re trying to organize your life.
4. Get yourself a journal or a punching bag
Even though it’s not often spoken about; it’s very important to have a way to process and express your thoughts and emotions away from social media! Writing them down helps you to organize your thoughts, set priorities, it allows you to self-reflect, keep record of your goals and process, relieve stress and it inspires your creativity. It also helps you to confront yourself with the things that are going on in your mind, find the negatives and replace them with positive, loving and encouraging things.
Not everyone needs to know the mess that is going on in your thought life, because it causes anxiety, stress and self-doubt.
5. Remove distractions
One of the things that make it hard to keep your life organized and which also make it very easy to procrastinate is when you have too many distractions around you. When there are too many noises in the background. All of those make it so much harder to concentrate on what actually matters. It could be limiting the people you entertain. Letting go of the ones who aren’t serving you in this season. It could be deleting your socials or cancelling one of your Netflix, Disney, HBO or stream.
6. Be kind to yourself
This is not a 1 week thing, it will take a while to get a hang of this and to do it well. There will be times when you will have to push yourself, but there are also times when you will have to let it slide and be kind to yourself.
There will be times when you won’t follow your schedule exactly or times when you sleep late. There will be times when you will go back to your old habits, but the most important thing is that you keep trying again. You need to give yourself time to unlearn and adapt to the new life you’re building.
To be able to keep trying again and again, you will need to be understanding to yourself. You will sometimes have to show kindness to yourself and let it slide when it doesn’t work.
7. Don’t quit trying
The last and most important thing about how to organize your life is that you don’t stop trying. In the same way, you would believe in your friend’s ability to achieve stuff, you need to believe in your ability to make it. In the same way, you would encourage your best friend to come out of their comfort zone, you need to encourage yourself.
There is so much power in knowing your ability to succeed. You have the authority to change your situation. There are so many things that you can do in your life if you don’t stop trying.
I hope these 7 tips will help you to organize your life. I truly hope that it’ll encourage you to fight for you, instead of only fighting for others. You becoming a better version of yourself makes the world a better place, just know that! 😉
