The survival mentality exists when people are trying to survive and because of that they usually only have one thing on their mind and one thing only, survival. Their whole life revolves around that one thing and that one thing only. They give it their all. All they want to do is get through the day, the hour or even the minute.
Definition of survival
Survival is the #1 instinct that people have. Somehow most people manage to have enough ambition to achieve that every day.
According to google Survival is the state or fact of continuing to live or exist, typically in spite of an accident, ordeal or difficult circumstances.

Survival is what most people are calling living these days. They try to make it through the day with the wish, instead of hope to make it one day. Survival usually happens when you’ve lost hope and you’ve settled for making it. Survival is when you’ve become afraid of thinking and asking for what you want.
I read found a quote somewhere a while ago, sadly I can’t remember where I got it from, but I wrote it down on a small piece of paper and found it back while clearing out my bag. The paper said:
The proof of hopelessness is the absence of the willingness to see things differently.

It made me question the way I was thinking. A lot of times people tend to think that hopelessness is only there when people aren’t able to get out of bed anymore or aren’t able to do things anymore.
Hopelessness is in the mind. It’s when you don’t dare to say the things that you truly believe about yourself. You can say “I believe I can do it,” but honestly you know you don’t. Or you’re truly doubting yourself.
The pros and cons of the survival mentality
If people would treat living the same way as they do surviving, they would be living the life of their dreams. If their emotional and spiritual hunger for joy and life as big as their physical hunger, more people would reach their version of success and prosperity. The focus on all the negativity would be transferred to doing good, which would cause people’s mental health to improve.
You eat what you crave for; not necessarily what you want. When you are hungry your body won’t automatically crave a healthy meal when in the past you’d feed it fastfood. It’ll want fastfood. The desire to prepare a healthy meal won’t be big at the moment you want to eat. If you spent most of your time feeding yourself with negativity or small dreams, that’s what you’ll go after in your life.
Sadly, that is why many people live with a feeling of lack. They live wondering “what if I had done more?” They spend most of their life wondering what their life would look like if they would’ve lived up to their potential. They live wishing rather than doing. The pain of wishing and wondering is that you’re constantly limiting yourself.
When you spend time talking down on yourself that’s all that’s exactly who you’ll become.
There is one major advantage of the survival mentality and that is focus. When you are trying to survive, you’re able to keep your mind on one thing. You’re able to block out most of the things that you never thought would be possible.
Another pro of the survival mentality is that due to the focus, you’re able to be present in all that you do. Being present is key in life. When you’re present, but not glad while being present it becomes unhealthy.
Going from survival mentality to an innovative mentality | Changing mindset
So the way you can go from a survival mentality to an innovative mentality is simply by using the work ethic of the survival mentality, but change the allow yourself to dream.
Allow yourself to hope for more. Educate yourself on how to acheive the lifestyle you want.
You need to learn 2 new languages as well: positivity & hope. It’s important to speak positively over your life with a genuine hope in your heart instead of saying one thing, but your actions lead to the other.

- Difficult does not mean impossible
- I am a problem solver

- I deserve to work hard and rest well
- You are the greatest project you will ever work on
